Junior Chess is a scholastic chess
instruction company located in Pensacola, Fla. We offer local
schools the opportunity to have an after-school chess program as
part of their extracurricular activities.
Junior Chess offers chess instruction as an alternative
to traditional after-school programs and activities. We work at the pace of each individual student.
Their learning is directly correlated to their class participation. Our policy is to gently encourage
and not to overly pressure students to pursue chess excellence.
The mission of Junior Chess is to provide school-age children
the opportunity to experience chess in an exciting, fun environment.
We offer parents a convenient and rewarding alternative to
traditional after-school programs. We give schools the added
excellence of having an after-school chess program. We expose North
West Florida to the benefits of scholastic chess.
Junior Chess is all about exposing school-age children to the
exciting -
yes, exciting! - world of chess.
The company was founded in 2007 by Joshua Stewart. Josh has taught chess to several hundred
students in the Pensacola area. He enjoys playing tournament chess and has played in more than 50 US chess tournaments.
Josh has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and B.A. in Communications from the University of West Florida.
He has over seven years experience in scholastic chess
including organizing and instructing after-school chess programs,
conducting one-on-one private chess lessons, and being on the
counseling staff of the prestigious Castle Chess Camp at Emory
University in Atlanta.
The vision Josh has for Junior Chess is for it to become a premier chess instruction
company serving the Florida panhandle and extending out to neighboring states. Josh wants to awaken
children's minds to creative thinking through chess and to truly enrich their lives ONE GAME AT A TIME!
